A versatile Scottish heritage apple, excellent both fresh and cooked. Its juicy flesh breaks down into a smooth purée, making it perfect for pies and applesauce. The tree is hardy and productive, and the wood, while not a primary timber source, is occasionally used for small woodworking projects.

Fun facts:

Originated in Edinburgh in 1893, named after a nurseryman who also bred rhododendrons.

Turns almost translucent when cooked - nicknamed "the jelly apple".
